Scandroid's catalogue is a one-label story, so the label is the compass. 3FORCE, Mega Drive and PRIZM all share both FiXT Music and FiXT Neon with him in the Frekvenci archive, and the tags line up: synth-pop and cyberpunk, with more vocals than most synthwave.
New wave first, synthwave second
Scandroid is the synthwave project of Klayton, the Detroit-based artist better known for Celldweller.[3] He told NewRetroWave in 2016 that he grew up in the 1980s listening mostly to new wave, that his heavier bands left no room for it, and that scoring a science-fiction novel of his own, Blackstar, led him to the sound.[1] The 2017 Echosynthetic interview has him calling new wave the sound he had always wanted to make at some point.[2]
Three things set the music apart. It is sung. The self-titled debut, from November 2016, runs to 15 tracks and about 72 minutes, built around a story of a clone living in old Tokyo with the wealthy floating Neo-Tokyo above.[1] It is hardware-heavy: Klayton names Roland Juno synths, two Prophet 600s and an Alesis drum machine.[1] And it comes with a remix culture. The archive lists 26 Scandroid releases between 2014 and 2023, 21 on FiXT Music and 5 on FiXT Neon, none self-released, and many are singles, remixes and remix-contest compilations. The tags are cyberpunk, darksynth, new wave and synthwave. Our FiXT Neon: label profile and where to start page covers the label.
Both FiXT labels
The archive counts a shared label twice, so these top the list.
- 3FORCE (Russia, 17 releases, 2015–2024) is the strongest match. Start with Unleash, a 2024 album on FiXT Neon.
- Mega Drive (US, 29 releases, 2012–2026) shares both labels and the cyberpunk tag; the newest entry is Theme Cartridge.
- PRIZM (US, 12 releases, 2019–2025) is tagged pop and synth-pop: the single Times Like These.
- DEADLIFE (UK, 24 releases, 2017–2023) adds cyberpunk, dark wave and synth-pop tags, and Mortal Sojourn is on NewRetroWave.
- Fury Weekend (Belarus, 32 releases) shares both labels with rock tags. Million Flares and Starlights is his 2024 album, and he is among the remixers credited on Scandroid singles.
Band-shaped records
LeBrock (UK, 14 releases, 2016–2025) is filed under synth-pop with a rock tag: Hope. The Bad Dreamers (US, 9 releases, 2018–2021) is a full FiXT Neon band: Space and Time. Ace Marino (8 releases) has Digital Memories :: Analog Emotions on FiXT Neon, and Essenger (US, 26 releases, 2018–2024) has pop and synth-pop tags with the remix single Sanctum Eternal (Koreskape remix).
Small FiXT Neon catalogues
Nouveau Arcade (8 releases) carries the cyberpunk tag: Die on Me Now (Deadlife remix). So does DreamReaper (US, 8 releases): ERROR404. The smallest on the list are OVRGRWN (4 releases) and Monflame (3 releases); see Momentary High and Voyager.
Follow the remix credits
The remix credits make a second map. Among the archive's Scandroid titles are reworks by Fury Weekend, Lazerpunk, Michael Oakley, Tommy '86, Volkor X, Synthatiger and The Anix, such as Red Planet (Lazerpunk Remix) and Phoenix (Volkor X Remix). Each name has a catalogue of its own, so a remix you like is a thread to pull. Play the original, Red Planet, beside it to hear how another producer bends the same song.
Matches here come from labels and tags, and FiXT has other sounds besides this one. Country is known for only part of the archive. The vocal end of the archive fits the Pop station (90.7 FM), and the more futuristic side the Future station (95.9 FM). For the dark-leaning cyberpunk end, What is darksynth? The heavy, horror-lit side of synthwave has the tag context; Synthpop and synthwave: where the 1980s sound meets the revival covers the sung side; and the sung, nostalgic If you like FM-84: artists to try next page goes in a sunnier direction. Our synthwave browser lets you filter by label to follow FiXT.
