B O G U S // COLLECTIVE: label profile and where to start

A net label that releases a new album twice a week, by its own account. Here is how B O G U S // COLLECTIVE looks in the Frekvenci archive: what it releases, how its pace changed, and where to start.

B O G U S // COLLECTIVE is a vaporwave net label that describes itself as established on 14 March 2016. The Frekvenci archive lists 222 of its releases from 158 artists, which makes it the second-largest label we list, and an unusually wide one: the average artist has fewer than two records on it.

What kind of label is this?

The Bandcamp page calls it "a vaporwave based net label run by TVVIN_PINEZ_M4LL", gives "est. 3/14/16" as its start, lists Savusavu, Fiji as its location, and promises new albums every Monday and Friday.[1] A net label, in this sense, puts out music online with no physical shop front. That suits vaporwave. Adam Harper wrote in 2013 about the ease with which anyone with a computer and an internet connection could make and upload a vaporwave album, and about Bandcamp and SoundCloud overflowing with anonymous accounts sharing chopped-up studio pop and muzak.[2] B O G U S is what that world looks like once somebody curates it.

The person the page names, TVVIN_PINEZ_M4LL, is also an artist in the archive: 21 listed releases, 4 of them on the label. The Fiji location differs from what some directories show, so treat the label's country as unconfirmed. Because the model is online and open, the label also belongs to the wider do-it-yourself story in Do it yourself: how much synthwave is self-released?, even though none of its listings is marked self-released.

How has its output changed since 2016?

The label starts with 27 listed releases in 2016 and 32 in 2017, then peaks at 53 in 2018. It falls to 25 in 2019 and just 8 in 2020, recovers to 16 in 2021, and holds between 14 and 19 a year through 2024 before listing 9 in 2025. In 2026, a part year, there are 5 so far.

That is far below a twice-weekly schedule. The archive only lists releases with a working listen link and enough match confidence, so the label's true output is bigger than our count, and the slide after 2018 may be partly a listing effect.

The catalogue is almost all albums: 165 LPs, 43 EPs, 13 filed as other and a single single. The spread of artists is the real fingerprint. The most prolific, E Z R A ゴーバー, has 7, then Dallas Raines with 6 and 蒸気 S O U R C E with 5.

Which vaporwave styles does it release?

By main genre tag, 124 listed releases are plain vaporwave, then signalwave (16), barber beats (13), mallsoft (10), slushwave (9), and 8 each for future funk, eccojams and vaportrap. The co-tags show another side: "experimental" on 202 releases, plunderphonics on 61, post-internet on 29 and "classic vaporwave" on 23.

Bandcamp Daily's family tree supplies the vocabulary. Eccojams are looped, slowed and echoed old songs; mallsoft is spacious ambient music set in an imagined shopping mall; signalwave is the branch of raw radio and TV collage; vaportrap adds trap beats.[3] Harper, writing in 2013, thought mallsoft could be a subgenre at most.[2] On B O G U S the whole family is present in proportions that look like a survey: mostly the classic form, with a sprinkling of everything else. If you want the family one style at a time, our What is vaporwave? A guide to the internet's slowed-down mall music is the longer route, and the What is barber beats? The vaporwave micro-genre named after one prolific artist and Future funk: vaporwave's dance floor, explained cover two of the offshoots on this roster.

Country is known for only 43% of its releases, a low figure, so we draw no conclusions from it. Among the known ones, the United States leads with 50.

Which artists should you know?

E Z R A, Dallas Raines and S O U R C E lead the counts. Others to try are AWITW (4 on the label; 35 in the archive), Doragon四十七, Skyline Divine, shnozberry fields, Preston Waters and Paco Moreno. Countries on file are scattered: Kid Mania is Canadian, Justin Wiggan British, Shnozberry Fields American and AWITW French.

  1. A 2016 album from the first year, with a title that reads like a joke on mall culture.
  2. A 2017 mallsoft album; the setting is in the title.
  3. A 2017 signalwave album.
  4. A 2018 album from the peak year.
  5. A vaportrap-tagged album from 2018.
  6. A 2019 future funk collection.
  7. A chillsynth-tagged 2020 album from a French artist.
  8. An eccojams-tagged album from 2023.
  9. A 2024 mallsoft EP from one of the three busiest artists.
  10. A 2025 album from the label's most-released artist.

Is B O G U S still putting out albums?

Yes. The archive lists releases in 2025 and 2026, so the label counts as active. The Bandcamp page shows a long run of recent albums, though it gives no dates, and repeats the Monday and Friday promise.[1] Our counts, at 9 for 2025, are well below that, so do not read them as the label's real pace.

To see how a very different vaporwave label behaves, compare it with DMT Tapes FL: label profile and where to start, the archive's largest. The full list of titles is on the label page.
