DMT Tapes FL is a vaporwave and signalwave tape label that our catalogue data places in Port Richey, Florida, and it is the largest label in the Frekvenci archive: 1,192 listed releases from 342 artists, from 2014 to 2026. For scale, RetroSynth Records, one of the busiest labels whose catalogue is mostly synthwave, lists 200. The difference comes from how DMT works: it releases like a stream, not a catalogue.
What do we actually know about it?
Less than the numbers suggest. Bandcamp Daily's October 2021 report on tape labels says DMT Tapes "hit its 1000th release in September 2021", and adds that a newer label, Lost Angles, took inspiration from it and from business casual.[1] We found no founding date, no founder names and no origin story in any source we could open, so we give none. What the archive can show you is shape and scale.
Why are the release years so lumpy?
The lumps are the story.

The label has 12 listed releases in 2014, then jumps to 167 in 2015. After a dip to 8 in 2016 and 23 in 2017, it surges again to 196 in 2018 and runs at 126, 97 and 113 from 2019 to 2021. The count falls to 29 in 2022, recovers to 61 in 2023 and 92 in 2024, and reaches its peak in 2025 with 258 listed releases. The 10 listed so far in 2026 mean little, because the year is not finished.
Two cautions. A "year" in the archive is the release date on file, which can be a reissue or an upload date, so the 2015 and 2018 spikes may include batches of older work. And we list only releases with a listen link and enough match confidence, so the label's own count will differ from ours. The report of a 1,000th release by September 2021 gives a sense of how fast it works.[1]
The format is just as unusual. Of 1,192 listed releases, 653 are LPs and 459 are EPs; only 29 are singles. In genre terms, 678 carry the signalwave tag, 376 future funk and 112 plain vaporwave, with a few slushwave, barber beats and mallsoft. Bandcamp Daily's map of the genre describes signalwave as the branch built from raw collages of old radio and TV clips, mimicking channel-hopping.[2] Future funk is the upbeat offshoot made from disco, funk and soul samples.[3] The co-tags add "broken transmission" (683 releases), "slushwave" (683) and "outsider ambient" (409). In plain terms, DMT is mostly the lo-fi, signal-glitch end of vaporwave, with a big future funk wing.

What will you hear?
Tape hiss, looped samples, interrupted broadcasts and gentle ambient drift, in whatever mix the artist likes. The tags also call it "alternative vaporwave" (358 releases), which suggests listeners treat it as a corner of vaporwave and not a separate genre. If you like clean, melodic synthwave, this is far from it; our If you like Macintosh Plus: artists to try next page is a better bridge, and the What is vaporwave? A guide to the internet's slowed-down mall music maps the neighbourhood. The brighter wing is covered by the Future funk: vaporwave's dance floor, explained and, more distantly, the What is barber beats? The vaporwave micro-genre named after one prolific artist.
Who are the biggest names on it?
No artist dominates. The largest catalogues are Decubellis Dreams (26 listed releases there), Caliente Mirage (21), NASA NASA NASA NASA NASA (19), ⊛ われらは平和に来る≌≟ SUNSHINE STATE SECURITY (18) and Love Ranger (18). Most of the top fifteen are American, and many have almost their whole catalogue here: Sleepless City has 17 of 17. The label's own name appears as an artist too, with 14 listings.

Is DMT Tapes FL still releasing?
Yes, heavily. The archive lists releases through 2026, and 2025 is the biggest year on file. The cadence is bursty and not steady, so check the label's Bandcamp page for the current run.
